With businesses trying to find ways of being more environmentally friendly, finding the right sustainable vehicle and making the switch has never been more important. The UK government is taking significant steps towards net-zero with plans for ending the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030. That is one of the reasons why now is the best time to be looking at an alternative fuel solution for your vans.
As the number of electric van models available to choose from increases, so does their range. There are two main types of Electric Vans available to choose from - BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) and hybrids. Out of the two, BEVs are the only ones capable of Zero Emission running, producing no exhaust emissions. Hybrid vehicles, on the other hand, can be more economical than your traditional ICE vans, with a lower running and maintenance cost. With hybrid technology becoming more advanced, some hybrid vehicles are now capable of limited range zero-emission running.
BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) | Those are fully-electric vans that have no combustion engine and are powered exclusively by their batteries and electric motors. |
HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) | The Hybrid Electric Vehicle uses an electric motor to supplement a conventional engine. The battery is charged through the engine and energy recapturing technologies. |
Mhev (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) | Those are vehicles that have both a conventional internal combustion engine combined with an electric motor. The battery supplements the engine and cannot run on purely electric power. |
PHEV (Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) | PHEVs use an electric motor to supplement a conventional engine which can be plugged in to charge the batteries. The van is capable of running on purely electric power for a limited range (e.g. in cities) and of using the traditional ICE engine for longer journeys or when the battery needs to be charged. |
Driving an electric van is an environmentally friendly way to drive around as they produce no C02 emissions from the tailpipe, significantly improving air quality over time as well as lowering your business carbon footprint.
Electric vans have a lower running cost than traditionally powered vans due to the cost per mile for electric vans being cheaper. With fewer moving parts and wearable elements, you can also see a reduction in maintenance costs.
There is no better way of showing your customers that you are doing everything you can than going elenctic. Owning an electric van or a whole fleet shows you are forward-thinking and socially conscious.
