Frequently Asked Questions

  • + How do electric vehicles work?

Only rechargeable batteries are used to power electric vehicles. They don't depend on gas or diesel. The battery is charged via a wall socket (at home) or dedicated charging points.

  • + How long do electric batteries last?

Manufacturer warranties cover the majority of batteries for 8 years or 100,000 miles, but there are a number of things that can shorten battery life, including temperature and overcharging.

  • + How often do you have to replace the battery?

According to usage and manufacturer warranties, most batteries need to be replaced every 5-8 years on average. After that, the batteries can be recycled.

  • + Are charging stations free to use?

While some public charging stations are free to use, the rapid chargers found at petrol stations and other locations of the like are typically premium.

A typical electric car (60 kW battery/200 miles of range) will cost you about £9 to charge at home; most workplaces with electric chargers offer free charging, as do open charging stations at supermarkets and parking lots. Most frequently found at highway service stations, rapid charging stations typically cost less than £10 for a 30-minute charge with a 100-mile range.

  • + Do all electric vehicles use the same plug?

No, the majority of EVs will come with two charging cables. Two charging cables are provided: a Mode 2 cable for plugging your car into a standard domestic outlet (3-pin plug) for at-home charging and a Mode 3 cable for connecting your car to the charging station.
