We are excited to announce that Motus Commercials’ DAF Apprenticeship Programme has been shortlisted for ‘Apprenticeship of the Year’ at the Motor Transport Awards 2019.
We started our Apprenticeship Programme 58 years ago and place huge importance on investing in the next generation of transport professionals. There are currently 90 apprentices across the group which are largely in Technical roles, but also in Parts, Sales, Customer Service, and Admin.
There have been a number of developments to the Motus Commercials Apprenticeship Programme over recent months, which have contributed to our finalist status:
- Communication has been a key element: with a dedicated handbook launching this September, quarterly apprentice newsletters, and an apprentice Facebook group. We also have a team of current apprentices, our Motus Ambassadors, who support with social media, school visits, events, and promotions.
- There is an internal Motus Commercials Apprentice of the Year competition (with regional finalists and a national winner) which champions talent and encourages healthy competition among apprentices.
- And also launching this year is a 6-year plan, which commits a further 3 years (minimum) of training and development beyond qualification, financial rewards, and long-term career plans.
All of this activity is with thanks to Apprentice Coordinator, Sarah Bardens, who joined the business just 9 months ago and has already put her experience from teaching and apprenticeships to good use at Motus Commercials.
Sarah is thrilled to hear that Motus Commercials’ Apprentice Programme is shortlisted for the Motor Transport award, “I’m over the moon with this news. We’ve already made some great improvements to how we coordinate our apprenticeships and have further developments on the horizon too. We’re fully committed to supporting and developing young people who show an active interest and enthusiasm for our industry. It’s vital that we seek out fresh talent to develop into the transport professionals of tomorrow.”
The Motor Transport Awards will take place on 3rd July 2019 at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London, where the results will be revealed. We’d like to wish all shortlisted finalists the best of luck in their categories. We’ll see you there!
