Motus Commercials Walks South Africa for Mental Health and Wellbeing Awareness

Motus Commercials has walked all over cancer and South Africa, raising awareness of mental wellbeing and Cancer Research UK.

  • Motus Commercials has walked all over cancer and South Africa, raising awareness of mental wellbeing and Cancer Research UK.

Motus Commercials originates in South Africa, so we decided to add a unique twist to Cancer Research UK’s national ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ campaign. We challenged 40 employees to collectively walk the equivalent of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to Cape Town, South Africa, during March 2021. This 4,653 km distance was broken down to a manageable 10,000 steps per day.

Many of our employees are working from home during the Coronavirus pandemic and having a purpose to get out and about for exercise is a great way to bring our team together whilst raising money for a fantastic cause. Our walkers have been sharing their own experiences of taking part:

Mel Handsley, PA to Managing Director at Motus Commercials, explains: “I took part in this challenge as this is for such a great charity, cancer affects so many families so I really wanted to get involved. It has also encouraged me to get out each day for some ‘me time’, to clear my head and push myself a bit more each day to move further up the leader board. It’s been a great motivation.”

  • Sharron Chadwick, Customer Service Controller, comments: “Walking was already a part of my daily routine. I have two dogs that need taking out and I also like to go for a 15 minute walk whilst at work too. I enjoy walking as it has helped me to lose 5 stone in weight and it also helps keep my mental health in check too. Taking part in this challenge is just another added bonus!

Sarah Bardens, People Partnership Manager at Motus Commercials, concludes: “I’ve loved taking part in this walking challenge. It’s important for me to get out and exercise regularly but this challenge has really motivated me to go every day, and I’ve actively planned my evenings and weekends around getting the most out of my walks. The bigger the walk, the bigger the sense of achievement and I love watching the leader board to see what everyone else is up to! I’ve roped in my best friend now and our two (teen) sons have even been out walking with us too (socially distanced of course!)

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all involved in helping us smash this challenge. So many people are affected by cancer every single day; we hope that Motus Commercials has inspired others to get outside and take a moment for themselves.
