'MOTUS Commercials' is new name for Imperial Commercials

Imperial Commercials, the truck and light commercial vehicles dealer group, has changed its name to Motus Commercials. Nothing else will change; Motus Commercials will still be focused 100% on supporting manufacturers and operators who rely on the business for vehicle sales, servicing and parts.

  • Imperial Commercials, the truck and light commercial vehicles dealer group, has changed its name to Motus Commercials. This change has been triggered by the recent unbundling of the automotive interests of its Johannesburg Stock Exchange (“JSE”) listed holding company, Imperial Holdings Ltd, into a new JSE listed entity, Motus Holdings Ltd.

Motus Commercials, previously Imperial Commercials, is the largest DAF dealer group in the UK and Europe, currently with 25 sites across the country. It also has additional truck interests with three MAN dealer and service points, as well as a network of Ford, VW, Isuzu, Fiat and LDV van and light commercials sites. Sales for the overall operation in 2018 totaled over 7,500 new and used vehicles.

Speaking about the move, Motus Commercials managing director, Matt Lawrenson, said, “We know people had grown used to the Imperial trading title over the years and quite rightly trusted it, so I want to reassure customers and suppliers alike that this is simply a change of name, nothing else. We will still be focused 100% on supporting our manufacturers and the thousands of operators who rely on us for new and used vehicle sales, along with the comprehensive service and parts infrastructure that supports those.”

Motus Commercials is a division of Motus Group (UK) Ltd, a subsidiary of Motus Holdings Ltd, a diversified (non-manufacturing) South African JSE listed company with interests in the automotive sector and founded initially as a single car dealership in 1948. Today, it turns over close to £4.5 billion and employs some 18,300 people across its operations in South Africa, the UK and Australia.

Motus Group (UK) Ltd holds the automotive interests of its parent company in the United Kingdom, which includes, amongst others, S&B Commercials, Orwell Truck & Van and Pentagon Motor Group.  Together, its business includes 119 vehicle franchise outlets at 73 locations, of which its truck and van operations currently number 88 franchise outlets. Passenger vehicle operations number 31. The business additionally operates two specialist commercial vehicle body shops and has further interests in parts and service facilities and commercial vehicle equipment supply.

Already encompassing the UK’s largest independent commercial vehicle dealer group, and with its passenger vehicle interests included, Motus Group (UK) Ltd. ranks inside the Top 15 of all UK automotive dealer groups. The company has annual revenues of over £1 billion and employs some 3000 people across its operations.
