Motus Commercials is celebrating its launch of the commercial vehicle industry’s very first Service & Maintenance Technician Programme a year ago, by catching up with those currently enrolled on the course.
The Service & Maintenance Technician Programme is a two-year internal course, developed to give people with no technical knowledge or experience an opportunity to start a new career as a Commercial Vehicle Technician with Motus Commercials. They learn and earn on the job and achieve Level 1 Commercial Vehicle Technician status upon course completion, followed by opportunities for further study and career growth via the People Partnership Programme.
Here's what the current recruits had to say:

Harry Blackburn, Barnsley
“I was in teaching before I joined Motus; I decided to have a career change and I have not looked back on this since. I have worked for the company for nearly a year now, I have learned new skills and I have developed both knowledge and a theory behind motor vehicles. I am enjoying being at Motus. I enjoy what I am doing but also meet friendly people who are willing to help.” -
Nikkita Hemming, Swindon
“Having completed my Level 2 Light Vehicle Apprenticeship at my previous employer, I joined Motus almost a year ago in December 2021. I started on the Service & Maintenance programme in March 2022, as previous to this I was carrying out mainly repairs on vehicles. Following this programme has enabled me to fine-tune my inspection skills and complete inspections in a better time. I am gathering the job card evidence to support and evidence my learning and looking forward to obtaining my IRTEC licence.” -

Jack Davidson, Manchester
“After losing my previous job due to the Covid pandemic, I didn’t really know what career path to take, I started looking for regular everyday jobs such as working in a wood mill and a recycling plant but also continued to search for an HGV apprenticeship. While working at the wood mill I found an application for a Level 1 Trainee Technician course with Motus Commercials and applied. Now I am doing everything from simple inspections to changing clutches. I would like to continue down this path and eventually become a Master Technician.” -
Carwyn Hooley, Grimsby
“Before I joined Motus Commercials I was fitting and repairing PVC decking in caravan parks. During that period I saw a job vacancy for a traineeship at the Grimsby depot and I saw this as a good opportunity to start a new career path that would give me stability and a good trade behind me. Since joining I have enjoyed my time here. Each day I am learning and feeling more confident with the jobs and tasks I am given. I am happy with how the programme is going and the training that is being provided to me and will hope to continue to grow within the company.” -

Romario Gjoni, Wrexham
“Before I started at Motus I was in college doing my light vehicle course. I got my Level 1, 2, and 3 in Light Vehicles and I was working as a tyre fitter in a garage. I saw on Indeed about this course and I applied for it with the help of one of my teachers that used to work at Motus in Wrexham. I am enjoying it really much, doing really well, and learning new stuff every day. I always try to help the lads and the company in the best way that I can.” -
Jeniah Francis, Gloucester
“I joined the Motus Commercials Trainee Service & Maintenance Programme around 7 months ago with little to no experience. However, due to having proper mentorship and being given the time to learn, I have been able to pick things up and I’m in line with the training set for me. I am comfortable working unassisted, however if there’s anything I’m unsure of, there are always Technicians willing to help me. I see myself progressing further in the future and aim to work my way through the internal courses that Motus has.” -
Emma Murdock, HR Director at Motus Commercials comments, “Our Service & Maintenance Technicians have made fantastic progress and we couldn’t be happier with how the programme has performed in its first year. We wanted to give people a chance at a career they always wanted, and it’s evident from this feedback that this opportunity has been greatly welcomed.”
