During an MOT test, our Maxus technician will look at many parts of your Maxus to ensure each one meets the minimum legal requirement. The MOT test will check;
Body and Structure | The body and vehicle structure are free from excessive corrosion or damage in specific areas, and there are no sharp edges likely to cause injury. |
---|---|
Fuel System | The fuel system has no leaks, and the fuel cap fastens and seals securely. The fuel cap will need to be opened so be sure the key is available. |
Exhaust System | The exhaust meets the requirements for exhaust emissions, depending on the age and fuel type of the vehicle. The exhaust system is secure, complete, without serious leaks and silences effectively. |
Seat Belts | Seat belts are checked for type, condition, operation and security. All compulsory seat belts must be in place. |
Seats | Seats are secure. Front and rear backseats can be secured in the upright position. |
Doors | Doors latch securely in a closed position. Front doors should open from inside and outside the vehicle. Rear doors may need to be opened to gain access to testable items. |
Mirrors | Mirrors are in place, in good condition and secure. |
Boot | The boot or tailgate can be secured in a closed position. |
Brakes | The brakes are in good condition and the operation and performance (efficiency test) are satisfactory. Note the removal of the road wheels is not part of the test. |
Tyres and Wheels | The tyres and wheels are in good condition, secure, of the correct size and type and tread depth, is sufficient. Spare tyres are not inspected. |
Number Plate | The registration plates are in good condition and secure and that the characters are correctly formed and spaced. |
Bonnet | The bonnet securely latches in the closed position. |
Wipers and Windscreen | Wipers and washers operate to give the driver a clear view ahead. The windscreen is in good condition, and the driver's view of the road is clear. |
Horn | The horn operates correctly and is of a suitable type. |
Steering | Steering and suspension are of satisfactory condition and operation. |
VIN Number | The vehicle identification number (VIN) is on vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980. Not more than one different VIN is displayed except on multistage build vehicles. |
Around 4 out of 5 vehicles will pass their MOT test the first time. The chance of any van passing is dependent on several factors (such as age, mileage and most importantly the overall condition of your vehicle), but you can increase the chance of your vehicle passing the first time by following these simple tips.
If your vehicle fails the test, it will be because the Government guidelines have been breached and your vehicle is deemed unfit for road use. The DVSA approved technician who carried out the test will give you a failure document detailing what specific item(s) has failed.
Items that failed should be repaired or replaced (we’ll give you a competitive all-inclusive quotation for this including parts and labour) and then the vehicle will need to be retested. If the repairs have been carried out by us we’ll be happy to carry out the MOT retest free of charge.
We want to rectify the problem for you, and we will always look for the most cost-effective way of achieving a pass without compromising your safety.
