Motus Commercials, a division of Motus Group (UK), has opened a brand new purpose-built workshop at its Volkswagen Van Centre franchise outlet in Derby, marked by an official opening on Monday 27th March 2023.
Located on Ashbourne Road in Mackworth, the VW Van Franchise previously used facilities within the wider commercial vehicle dealership, but advances in vehicle technology and demand in recent times have led to a need for a bespoke, VW-specific workshop environment.
“The existing facility no longer enabled us to provide the service needed to customers, particularly following the success of the VW Crafter and new technology like BEV,” explains Gareth Kaye, LCV Franchise Director.
“This new facility will provide much shorter lead times for customers and make the work environment much better for technicians, which will in turn aid productivity.”

Gareth has been involved with the project from Day 1, alongside a Property Director and local build specialist, Davlyn Construction Ltd.
Gareth explains, “The project has been fairly smooth going, with some usual hiccups along the way but nothing major. Davlyn Construction has been a pleasure to work with and we’d like to thank their team and also Andy Ong, our Service Manager at the dealership for managing the day-to-day on-site.”
A similar scheme is planned for the Nottingham Volkswagen Van Centre later this year, as Motus Commercials continues to build on its relationship with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

The official opening event was attended by Cian O’Brien (Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles), Sylvain Charbonnier (Group Aftersales Manager of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles), and Matt Lawrenson (Managing Director of Motus Commercials) who, in the company of other team members within the partnership and customers too, cut the ribbon to mark the occasion. They then had a chance to explore the new state-of-the-art facility.
Matt Lawrenson, Managing Director of Motus Commercials, comments, “I take great joy in attending events like this and seeing the improvements within our sites following many months of planning and hard work. Essentially though, it is all about improving service levels for customers. We are in the midst of many changes across the commercial vehicle industry with emissions targets playing a huge part in that. New vehicle technologies signal a need for new facilities, and Motus Group (UK) is fully committed to supporting our dealer franchises where needed.”
